Black Tide is the competitive Men’s Club Ultimate team from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Established in 1984 by Tom Kennedy and Greg Sharp (initially as Ronnie’s Ranch Hands), the team changed their name in 1985 to bring attention to the environmental impact of the 1969 oil spills off the coast of Santa Barbara.
Since then, they have made multiple national championship appearances, with two back-to-back-to-back winning streaks in being the best team in the nation.
With their latest nationals appearance in 2015, the team is constantly working to conquer the Southwest once again, with Nationals in their sights.
More in-depth info about Black Tide’s story can be found in the Ultimate Frisbee Team History pages compiled/written by Joe Seidler.
