Will Turner

Will played Black Tide from 2012 to 2017, competing with the team that made a 2015 Nationals appearance. After graduating, he has played and captained both the San Diego Growlers and the SoCal Condors, traveling to Championship Weekend and Nationals multiple years in a row. Coaching Tide during the 2022 season, Will brought strong offensive ideas and building blocks to Tide’s O Line. He’s currently continuing his Ph.D work in climate data analysis at UCSB.

Ian Ladner

Ian played Black Tide from 2012 to 2017, competing with the team that made a 2015 Nationals appearance. After graduating, he has had a multi-year tenure on the Los Angeles Aviators as a Hybrid, as well as captained and coached the Santa Barbara Sundowners. Coaching Tide during the 2022 season, Ian’s strong fundamentals and vision provided valuable skills to Tide’s D Line. He’s currently attending UCSB at Girvetz, pursuing a career in teaching high school science.

Vincent “Styxx” Chang

Styxx played Black Out from 2012 to 2016 and begun coaching the Developmental team immediately after graduating. While in Santa Barbara, he was prevalent in USAU as an Observer, in the AUDL as a Referee, and served as a board member for Santa Barbara Youth Ultimate while playing for the Santa Barbara Sundowners and eventually captaining the Santa Barbara Offshore. Styxx brought structure and culture integral to the Black Out program during his 5 years of coaching.

Collin Gall

Collin played Tide from 2008 to 2013. Post-undergrad, he took his talents to the Santa Barbara Condors, Los Angeles Aviators, and Santa Barbara Sundowners before starting his coaching career, returning to the Tide in 2017. Dedicated to the team’s success, Collin brought systematic excellence to the team until his departure in 2021 to San Diego.

Curtis Worden

Curtis played Tide from 2008 to 2013, captaining during his later years. After a four-year stint as an English teacher in Spain, he returned to Santa Barbara to coach the Tide in 2019. Bringing his defensive-minded talents and his zen demeanor, Curtis bolstered the players’ focus with the right mindset throughout the game. He can still be found playing music in Santa Barbara.

Jackson Scher

Hailing from the East Coast, Jackson found himself working in Santa Barbara as an investment analyst in sustainable apparel. Interested in player development, Jackson coached Tide during their 2018 season, focusing on personal and role improvement within the system. He’s since moved back to the East to pursue an MBA at NYU.

Tyler Bacon

After playing for five years at SLO, Tyler eventually found his way south in Santa Barbara, coaching Tide from 2014 to 2017, bringing the team to Nationals in 2015 and winning Southwest Coach of the Year in doing so. His career in both the club and semi-pro scene is just as decorated, bringing his talent to the SoCal Condors, San Diego Growlers, and Los Angeles Aviators. Currently, he’s located in California’s capitol, competing with the mixed team Sacramento Tower.

Greg Husak

What more is there to say about Hall of Famer Greg “Hollywood” Husak. Greg played Tide from 1995 to 1999, firmly stamping three back-to-back-to-back championships into Tide’s Legacy. Continuing to pursue excellence, he moved on to obtain three more championships club. Greg coached and advised Tide from 2010 to 2013, laying out crucial foundation that the team would continue to utilize years down the line.

Steven Dugan

Hall of Famer Steve Dugan’s legacy precedes him. Having played on Tide from 1991 to 1993, his rise to greatness came with his persistent years on the Santa Barbara Condors, winning multiple national and world championships. He coached Tide during its 2011 season, providing insight that continued to help grow the program. His penchant for coaching hasn’t stopped as he continues to grow the Santa Barbara community to this day.

Dan Bellinger

Despite playing Tide from 2003 to 2006, “Dirty” Dan Bellinger seems like a permanent thread in the fabric of Black Tide. His success didn’t stop at college, as he has played or coached in virtually every ultimate league that has ever existed. Dan has served as unofficial sideline coach for the Tide, providing invaluable real-time advice to countless A- and B-team players throughout the years. His legacy of hitting the 5th line with a disc on Storke Tower continues to remain unchallenged.

Brian Romanczyk

After completing his B.S. and M.S. at RIT, Brian made his way to the sunny-side of the west coast to complete his PhD and play with the Tide from 2015 to 2017 for his last years of college eligibility. Competing also with the Santa Barbara Sundowners for its inaugural and second season, he took his talents to coaching Black Out for three years, dedicated to the players’ fundamental growth and improvement. He’s still at UCSB, working as a postdoctoral researcher in electrical engineering.

Sahil Patel

Sahil arrived from Cornell in 2010 and took his talents to UCSB as a PhD student. Interested in improving the program, Sahil coached Black Out from 2012 to 2015, developing the program’s focus and standards and nurturing the next generation of high-level ultimate players with incredibly solid fundamentals. After competing with the Santa Barbara Sundowners during its inaugural season and completing his PhD in Materials, he made his way up to Silicon Valley.

Nathan Young

An elite player from Stanford’s Bloodthirsty, Nate came to UCSB in 2010 to work on his PhD in Materials Science. Craving more, but out of college eligibility, he took his talents to a multi-year tenure with the Santa Barbara Condors. He used his extensive knowledge to build the foundation of the program, coaching Black Out from 2012 to 2014. He has since moved north to the Bay Area, playing for the San Francisco Mischief and the Santa Barbara Beyondors. He currently is coaching the San Francisco Mischief in an attempt to win gold at Nationals.

Nathan Emery

Nate has been all over the country, but ended up at UCSB in 2009 to work on his PhD in Plant Ecology. Always interested in growing the community he’s in and staying involved, he coached Black Out from 2012 to 2014, providing clear and actionable feedback to players, constantly working to help them improve, while competing with the Santa Barbara Sundowners for multiple seasons. He has recently returned to UCSB to serve as CITRAL’s STEM Coordinator after a stint in the Plant Biology Department at Michigan State University, where he remained active in the Michigan Ultimate scene, playing in local leagues and with Ann Arbor Jalopy.
